ungovernanceable: (TIMETRAP)
First, pronoun note! SecUnit uses it/its pronouns. SecUnit prefers to use it/its pronouns. Its pronouns are dehumanizing in the way that she/her pronouns are emasculating. Which is to say: this is a feature, not a bug. Obviously it's not natural for most characters to default to it/its, and some may have reason to be uncomfortable with using them for a person in general! So for IC stuff, I'm flexible and SecUnit won't care all that much. Humans have done much worse than mess up its pronouns, after all.

But the original author of the books is pretty firm on this, to the point where you can get banned from the Murderbot subreddit for willful pronoun fuckery. So for OOC stuff I want to respect that too.

ETA: also a name note! It refers to itself as "Murderbot" exclusively in the privacy of its internal monologue. It doesn't like anyone else, especially humans, calling it that. When it's not trying to pretend to be human it prefers to be referred to by its title of SecUnit. Not that this is particularly relevant when both names will stay hidden, but in case there's any OOC confusion, that's what's up.

OK NOW CONTENT WARNINGS AND PERMISSIONS:

SecUnit is .... a security unit! It's a privately owned robocop made to do (sometimes violent) rule enforcement and also was programmed to not ever have free will. Topics that may come up around this include:
  • Slavery, both programed-to-be-obedient constructs like itself and humans caught in "contracted indenture"
  • Police violence
  • Enslaved humans mistreating even-more-enslaved bots to let off steam
  • Enslaved humans using drugs to let off steam
  • Not-yet-enslaved humans tricked into addiction to better facilitate enslavement
  • "Comfort Units" (sentient constructs programmed for sex work)
  • Mental violation including memory alteration and reprogramming
  • nasty space capitalism in general

It's also intended to be not just an enforcer but omni-present surveyor. It is recording everything it witnesses, originally to then be turned over to its employers for datamining, and now just because it kind of likes to creep on human drama.

So, questions here are:
  1. Are there topics you'd like me to avoid?
  2. Are there topics I should be aware of how they will affect your character if they come up?
  3. Are you OK with SecUnit creeping on you as much as possible and recording conversations your character may not even known it was listening in on?
